Saturday 13th October

SHE SAID:

We farewelled our hosts, Caz & Bart, & headed about 60km up the road to the Ballan Caravan Park. I wanted to check out the local State Forest, which was less than 10km away. We had a muck around to park the van, as most of the sites were uneven & the flat ones were already taken. Anyhow, on the 2nd attempt we got a fairly flat site!

After lunch we headed to the Bungal State Forest & much to my surprise we came up trumps with 3 new orchids. Two I'd not seen before, all thanks to eagle-eyed hubby, who scored a million Brownie points!

Caladenia concolor - Crimson Spider Orchid (I think)

Left top & bottom: Diuris chryseopsis (Golden Moths)
Right top & bottom: Diuris x hybrid (Hybrid Golden Moths)

HE SAID:

I was glad to find that orchid for Varena. It improved my afternoon after I had had the wits scared out of me when a good sized Tiger Snake took a lunge at me. He got his mouth within a foot of me, but as I was going backwards at the time, he did not pursue me for more than a couple of paces. A bloke like me has no stealth mode, so I  had assumed all creatures were warned of my presence. But I had been standing fairly still for a bit, looking around, so I guess that I stood still long enough for the snake to have no concerns about me. Until I nearly walked on him!
