SHE SAID:

For our final day in the Birdsville area (& to mark the first day of "Year 8" on our Great Aussie Adventure....) we headed back into the Sturt Stony Desert, this time going east out to the “ghost village” of Betoota. The last resident died in 2004, so the old roadhouse is abandoned & slowly crumbling away.

Our other destination was Haddon Corner; one of the corners on the map where Queensland & South Australia meet. We did Cameron Corner, to the south, about 3 years ago.

We had a couple of sand dunes to drive over to get there & had the place to ourselves, apart from flies & ravens. After signing the visitors book we ate lunch in the car, without the flies, & returned to Birdsville.

A tasty dinner at the iconic pub rounded out our 8 day stay in Birdsville nicely. It was good to see the contrast with the town full of people, around 5000 we heard, then down to hardly anyone.

PS

After 7 full years travelling we have spent about $38,889.35 on fuel & clocked up 191,000km!

The old bar

It looks like they were fond of champagne at this old place!

NOT the Harry Potter bus!

The old sleep-out verandas

It should say Haddon Corner.....

Another big day out for us. All these things to see while we are out here have to be done this time, as you never know if or when you'll get back.
