Wednesday 2nd May

SHE SAID:

We had a shorter, 1/2 day out today. I chose Gara Gorge, which was about 20km out of Armidale. I didn't really expect to find orchids, but we looked anyway.

It was a 5.5km loop walk through pleasant forest & along the edge of the gorge. We heeded the tourist info & did the walk clock-wise; a good idea, as there is a steep climb down at one stage!

We found heaps of Greenhood leaves, possibly 2 types, though nothing flowering or even in bud. There was evidence of summer orchids: the Hyacinth Orchid, now dying, in several places, & Rock Orchids too, but not in flower.

The walk took around 3 hours, with a tea break in the middle.

The track around the Gara Gorge

The gorge with not much water running through it

Tree roots making their way to the water...

The old name for the area was Blue Hole...but it wasn't very blue today

Walking along the track & over dry gullies

Cuttings through the rocks made by the old gold miners for a
hydro-electric system

A strange looking bug or beetle
HE SAID:

Our bush walk was fine, with some views, but no orchids. A late lunch was our priority after getting back to the house.
