The
cleaning, sorting & repacking in the van happened today; well
mostly.
Geoff
used some of “owner” Geoff's toys & washed the awning on the
van using a gurney. He then attempted to do the mowing, using
“owner” Geoff's flash ride-on mower.....Then he hit a tree root
& that was the end of that.
So, as well as having the neighbours Ingrid & Peter over for drinks, Geoff called on John (Elaine's cousins' husband) for suggestions on
fixing the mower, & another neighbour, Bill, joined in too. Four
men in the shed trying to fix the mower! Sensibly Ingrid & I
stayed well out of the way!

HE SAID:
My plans for the day, as part of wrapping up the house sit here in Kew, all went out the window this morning. Cleaning the van's awning went well. But I started to mow the acre+ of grass on the ride-on mower, and had only been going a few minutes, when horrible noises started coming from under the mower. The broad trail of bare earth where the grass had been scalped off was not pleasant either. It seems that I had managed to somehow bend a mower blade, probably on an exposed tree root. Not good.
So I spent ages trying to get the old blade off and couldn't. It was stuck fast. So I phoned John, who had visited yesterday, and he said he'd come over after doing a few things. He couldn't get here until after 4pm, and even then we couldn't work out why this bolt that held the blade could not be undone. It ended up taking a committee of four blokes, trying many different things, to get the blasted bolt out. The tactic used involved hammering a socket onto the bolt head, then using a pipe as an extension to the long socket driver handle. And as it was almost dark by this time we just put the mower all back together and went and had a beer. I will mow tomorrow.
