Thursday 20th June

SHE SAID:

I had a list of places in the Halls Head area to visit today, & Geoff came along for the ride. We took the scenic Estuary Road, which follows Collins Pool, stopping at Parkside Jetty for a cuppa. We had several random stops in remnant bush area for orchids, but only found the Small Banded Greenhood flowering.

We crossed the Old Coast Road & went to Lake Clifton to see the Thrombolites, ancient “living stones” that are along the edge of the lake. It was a very short stop at the Bouvard Winery; it was cold inside & the lady servicing us wasn't very friendly.

With one final stop at Island Point Reserve we were back at the house for a late lunch.

HE SAID:

Thrombolites are an ancient order of life, but the ones we saw were estimated to only be up to 2000 years old - still amazing!

Rather unusually I was not really all that keen on popping into the winery/brewery, as it was still before lunch time and I had not given it any thought, and was still a little tooth-paste-y in the mouth. Anyway, we went in and were not really welcomed but tolerated. I asked about beer tastings and was told to buy a selection paddle. I didn't, but I was permitted a mouthful of the only beer on their list that did not sound too wanky. It was wanky. I didn't buy any. Beer (actually advertised as a strong ale) with Chai and Asian spices was in the write-up but I didn't expect to taste it when I drank it. I did taste it, which is why I didn't buy it.
