 Friday 18th August

SHE SAID:

Geoff & I checked out the Baker's Junction burn; there wasn’t much to see, a few Pink Bunnies & a single Zebra Orchid, but the find of the day was budding Southern Curly Locks; we counted over 130 plants.

I had a solo walk around the Frenchman’s Bay peninsular after lunch & found Donkeys & Snails flowering. I was saddened to see the King Spider I’d see in previous years had been munched off. I was even more upset to find something has leaked in the car & sodden my orchid book that once belonged to my friend Tony Woods, & was given to me after he died. I tried to carefully peel the pages apart, but the damage is huge.

HE SAID:

The orchids were scarce at first today. Then we hit a change of habitat and Varena was very excited.  I think this is by far the most Curly Locks plants Varena has seen in the one area, and that was without going more than a few metres of the track, so there must be plenty more. I expect she'll go there again on a better day, when they are warm enough to be open.

We had a mild Harissa chicken curry and couscous for dinner. It was a tasty change.
