SHE SAID:

Day 1 of sightseeing took us to the close by town of Valkenburg. We toured the old castle ruins (the only castle on a hill in Holland), the Velvet Caves beneath the town, from which the town was built, & the old town itself, with remnants of the fortified walls, gates & canals.

In the evening we accompanied Mum & John to Maastricht, joining them for dinner, but left them to the concert & caught the train back to Sint Gerlach.  Except we got onto the “sneltrain” not the “stoptrain”, which zoomed straight through our stop! Luckily it was only a couple of stops further on so we got back easily enough!

Geoff was first to spot this "lady"

The castle ruins above the city.
This is the only Dutch castle on a hill (I didn't think Holland had hills!)

The "Hidden Church"- Inside the Velvet Caves; which have been cut out for centuries & the stone used
to build the city above. During times of persecution these caves had many people hiding in them, including a priest who made a church down in them.

This was in the garden of the house above this picture!
HE SAID:

It was funny on the Sneltrain. A couple of young, clean cut males with large black rectangular badges started talking to us. I knew straight away that they were Mormons, but Varena didn't realise. So she asked them what they did! It was quite amusing for me.
