SHE
SAID:
It
had been suggested that we take a whole day to do Blenheim Palace,
which is about 45 minutes from the BnB. So we left the house about
9am, but headed through the villages instead of the main roads.
This
route is much more interesting, plus I wanted to have a short stop in
Bampton, which is the village used in the TV series Downton Abbey.
Very surprisingly we happened upon some filming of the show, so we
saw Mrs Crawley, Dr Clarkson & Lord Merton all in period costume,
rehearsing a scene!!! I was quite chuffed, I rang Mum & told her.
Blenheim
Palace was good, very crowded by midday, but well worth the visit.
For
dinner that night we had a nice meal at the White Horse Inn in the
village, about 3 minutes from the BnB. Then we watched the sun go down
from White Horse Hill.

HE SAID:
As amazing, historic, and hugely extravagant as Blenheim is, I think Varena's highlight of the day was catching the Downton scene in Bampton.
Unfortunately, Blenheim has the poorest excuse for a steak sandwich that I have ever seen. I expected the food to be overpriced, and it certainly was. But paying about $20 for a tiny bit of meat on one slice of bread, accompanied by several chips in a trendy cup, is not a feed, it is a disgrace. Anyone visiting there should seriously consider taking their own food.
