Sunday 6th September 2015

SHE SAID/HE SAID:

Today marks the first day of year 6 of our wanderings on the road.

We have decided to modify our “Blogging” after 5 years. Now we are going to do a weekly round-up of the events instead of a daily one. There will be more photos (probably), but just one SHE SAID & HE SAID at the end of each week.

Having said that this is the final individual SHE SAID from me.

We had a big day today, the weather was perfect; blue skies & warmish. We took the coastal road north heading for Holy Island, but got side tracked by a couple of castles along the way. Both Warkworth & Bamburgh Castles stand high above their towns & are very impressive looking.

Lindisfarne Castle is on Holy Island & is only accessible at low tide when the sea has drained off the causeway! Also on the island is the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory.

As we were so close to another famous site, that of the Battle of Flodden, we decided to check that out too. It took place in 1513; the forces of Henry VIII defeated James IV in a terrible, bloody fight. Then it was only about 8 miles further north to the Scottish border, so we darted up to Coldstream for a drink & photo!

Hmmm...should Archie be subjected

HE SAID:

We can now say that we have been to Scotland.

The weather was very kind today. It was very briefly t-shirt weather, though I quickly grabbed a jumper when we stopped at the Coldstream pub.

Lindisfarne is famous and we wanted to go there, but whenever I think of the place I also think of the 1970's band of the same name, and their song Run for Home. It will pass.
