We
farewelled Scotland today, with a brief stop at Gretna Green! Then it
was on to the Lake District, & our next BnB experience at
Ulverston. We had a couple of photo stops in the famous scenic area &
arrived into town around 4pm.
Zoe
& Andy were very welcoming, giving us tips on places to go &
things to do whilst we are here. We took them up on their suggestion
to walk along the shortest, deepest & straightest canal in
England. It is across the road from them. The Canal Foot is no longer
a working canal, but it is a nice walk along it to Morecombe Bay.
There is an old 17th century coaching there, which was well
received by both of us...!

Apparently the marriage age in Scotland was much lower than in England, so the young English lovers used to elope across the border to Gretna Green and get hitched.
