SHE
SAID:
For
our final day with Jacqui & Mick I had booked us on the Skyrail & Scenic railway to / from Kuranda, which is just north of Cairns. The journey up took us
into the misty Tablelands & much cooler weather. Luckily some of
us were prepared!!!
Kuranda
seemed much more touristy & tacky than my memories of it from
1999; the markets especially were dreadful, full of trashy imported
junk (more so than other markets we have been to)!
It didn't help that the
weather wasn't very good either. The train down was good though, & the
sun was out on our arrival at Freshwater Station!
Having
dropped Jacqui & Mick at their BnB in Edge Hill we headed back to
Djarawong, arriving just after 7.30pm.

Despite not being certain, both Varena and I thought that we had done the cable car and train before. Varena checked her photo archive when we returned to the house and found photos of us doing the trip from 1995. The day out with Mick and Jac was good, but you can keep Kuranda, and I don't think I need a third trip on the cable car and train. At over $100 each I reckon that people should enjoy the trip once, then just be content with their memories. All the queuing to board trains and cable cars soon becomes tiresome, the markets are just full of overpriced cheap t-shirts, and the food is at tourist prices; $6 for a small coffee!
