SHE
SAID:
Our
Djarawong sit has come to an end.
We
moved Bertie to the free camp in Tully, then waited around for Julie
& Chris to return.
I
tallied up the rain/grey days we had had since our arrival & it
is about 85 or more days that were what I would call yucky! Our total
days in the area was 133, though we did shoot off for a few days here
& there, which in the main were nicer weather!
The saying that Tully is the wettest places in Australia, in my opinion, is
CORRECT!
I
really enjoyed the area. We saw lots of things, places, &
orchids, but the weather was quite a surprise. It was nothing like Darwin,
where we spent 10 years, in what I would call was the REAL tropics!
More photos from our Undara lava tubes trip.
One chilled out little lizard posed for lots of people. |

Bottlebrush was popular with the butterflies |
I don't think this inquisitive Swamp Wallaby knew we were sitting on the veranda when it came past! |

Gum Nuts! |

Geoff spotted this "stick" in the carport! |
With Varena's calculations showing that 64% of our days at Djarawong were rather ordinary, weather-wise, it is no wonder that we moaned about the rain! With mountains on three sides, and the Coral Sea on the non-mountainous side, I guess that where we were was just a great place for rain to develop. We had a good look around the district, despite the weather, and overall found it a good area and had a good time. We have no idea if or when we'll be back. We'll be in the dry inland for the next several weeks, which is quite a contrast.
