SHE
SAID:
We
left Undara around 8.30am, stopping in Mount Garnet for an egg &
bacon roll. Geoff finally got himself a coffee (someone had forgotten
to pack his coffee...bad wife!).
I
wanted to check out a couple of orchid areas on our way back. The
first was out through Ravenshoe to the Tumoulin State Forest. We
found heaps of Pink Fingers & Northern Sun Orchids.
The
second place was a revisit to the Herberton Range Ridge Road, in
hopes that the Hairy Jewel Orchid would be flowering; we'd seen lots
of budding plants several weeks ago.
Geoff
was the hero of the day (it must have been the coffee). He found the
one & only plant that had one fully open flower! The flower is
only 2 to 3mm, tiny, & he found it! Thanks hubby.
This beautiful Cymbidium canaliculatum was flowering near the reception area |
I also saw it high in several trees, about to bloom |
Black Orchid or the Channel-leaf Orchid |

Stunningly pretty Thelymitra queenslandica

Many of the "Pink Fingers" were in flower.
They are a Caladenia though apparently un-described as yet,
meaning they are not formally identified

The colour variations are wide |
This is the Hairy (or Common) Jewel Orchid that Geoff spotted |
Spot the flower! |

Our stay in Mt Garnet was a bit longer than I anticipated. The egg and bacon roll was tasty, and the coffee was good too, but piping hot. It just meant that it took longer to drink, so all up we were there for about 45 minutes.
