Sunday 18th March
SHE SAID :
We had a big touring day; firstly we followed Ramzie out to Simonstown (he was on his bike) and us in the hire car. He said he needs the practice before he goes for his full license, and we were happy to check out this naval town.
For lunch we returned to the house to get Tina and went in their car to Hout Bay for Fish and Chips. Luckily we were late getting there, around 2pm, as it was crowded (it would have been much worse 2 hours earlier). This was a sleepy fishing port when I last visited; it seems somewhat more popular now!
Next stop was the cable car ride up Table Mountain. Tina had booked the tickets, so we didn't wait too long. There are new and much large cars now. They hold 68 people, are round, and rotate as you ascend to the top so everyone gets a good view. The weather was surprisingly good on the top, with a slight breeze and the "tablecloth" of clouds slowly drifting across. We managed to have a good look round before the clouds came fully across & the breeze picked up.
Back down the 1000m to the base station it was warm again. Our final stop was at Bloubergstrand for the views back across Table Bay & the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. The wind was brisk here, but we waited till the sun was no more, though Tina and Ramzie sensibly stayed in the car.

It was a good day of seeing around Cape Town. Table Mountain was a must see, and was a good spot. When the cloud cape across, known as "The Tablecloth" to the locals, the temperature dropped to a chilly 14 degrees - less with wind chill from the mist-laden breeze.
