Sunday 4th March

SHE SAID:

Our game drives today were again filled with animals, both animals seen previously and new to us sightings. We shared the morning and afternoon trips with the Capetonians, Sussi & Steve. Steve was very good at spotting animals.

New sightings were: Red Lechwe and Tsessbe, both large antelopes. Reed Buck, and large Saddle-billed Storks, similar to the Australian Jabirus.

During our afternoon siesta we had the awesome sight of a herd of elephants walking through the camp; they came pretty close to the tent....

On the afternoon drive eagle-eyed Steve spotted a Boomslang Snake attacking a Tree Squirrel, then beginning to eat it. Quite a sight.
Our planned Mokoro canoe trip was abandoned when a hippo was sighted in the launching pool. They aren't normally there & are too unpredictable to face in a small dug-out canoe. It meant that sundowners came early...

HE SAID:

The variety and density of wildlife here is amazing. The locals here would be rather disappointed with just how spread out the animals in Australia generally are.

Having a herd of elephants meander through the camp was special. There are already resident hippos, and several other visiting species, so were just lucky the elephants came to visit too.
