Monday 25th June

SHE SAID:

My trip to Aotearoa – The land of the long wet cloud, (I know it should be The land of the long white cloud, but I thought wet was more apt!), has come to an end.

I set off from Ang & Tony's place just after 5am. The rain kept off for the first 2 ½ hours but the second almost 2 ½ hours was pretty wet. I made good time, with my ETA of 9.50am, getting blown out of the water 23km from the airport. The traffic ground to a halt, then crawled along through roadworks & across a bridge. That last 23km took almost an hour! Now I understand why Ang suggested I take 5 hours! I returned the hire car with almost 2,000 more kms on the clock!

The flights back to Armidale were uneventful, but I was glad when they were over. It was 10pm NZ time & I left at 3am OZ time so it seemed like a very long day to me!

Geoff met me at the airport with flowers in hand & his lovely big grin.

Leaving Auckland Airport under gloomy skies

Then rain...

Crossing the coast & heading for Oz

Sydney in all it's glory

I managed to pass the day with a bit of tidying up, cleaning, and sorting out, in anticipation of Varena's return. She landed a bit early, which was good, and I zoomed her back to Arding to reunite with the cat.
