Wednesday 15th August

SHE SAID:

Today we headed south, past Eden to the Ben Boyd National Park. We had morning tea overlooking Disaster Bay, a beautiful looking bay, and a walk to the Green Cape Lighthouse. We ticked off Pulpit Rock & City Rock too.

Then it was time for lunch, at the Saltwater Creek Beach, another beautiful, empty beach. The wind was whipping up from time to time & we got a little sand-blasted! There was only one orchid found today, but at least we found it!

Heading back to the caravan park we could see huge plumes of smoke ahead of us. The radio reports told us that there was a fire about 30km north of where we were staying, at Bemboka; we came past this little place on Monday. There were also two other out-of-control fires further up the coast, & the very strong warm winds were causing huge problems for the firefighters were trying to contain them.

Today was another day of checking out the area. The big winds were a concern, mainly with the possibility of falling branches or trees. There were many fallen tree branches to dodge on the tracks as we drove along, and one even whacked us as it fell. We also had to drag a small wind-blown tree off a track to get out from City Rock.
