Sunday 9th April

Because Monday, my birthday, happens to fall on “Easter Monday” everything is closed. So, Geoff booked for us to go to the Oakway Winery today instead.
We started the day with a walk around Joshua Lake, a rehabilitated mineral sand mine, in Boyanup. Then, we had a couple of very short random bush stops for orchid searches before hitting the winery.
It was a small place with about 12 tables, inside & out, & had an interesting selection of wines. We tried 6 of their options, along with cheese & crackers. Then, we had homemade pizza for the main event. We spent a lovely 2 hours plus there, & of course came home with a six pack of our favourites.
The drive back was unexpected; both Google & Garmin took us on the “scenic” back tracks. We wound through a recently burnt area of bush, but we did eventually get back to the house around ½ hour later than the quickest route!

HE SAID:
To get Varena's birthday celebrations going we had the morning out on a scenic drive, getting to the winery a bit earlier than we had planned, but they were fine with that. We enjoyed our tastings, nibbles, and pizzas before the rough bush tracks as we headed back to Leschenault. I was tempted to turn around a couple of times, as the road got quite rough, and quite sandy in places. But, we persisted, and made it through with no problems. There was no need for dinner in the evening as we were still full from lunch.
