We had another so-so orchid hunt. We checked out 5 sites, with only Banded & Dark Banded Greenhoods seen in flower.
After lunch at the house I went out solo & found both Greenhoods in another location, plus Hares still going. Overall though it was a poor day’s searching; as usual I'm too early! But the good times are still coming.
I had a bit of excitement coming out of Moramockining Road, crossing a ford with water flowing over it. There was a warning of water over the road, but the road was not closed. The ford was concrete for most of the way, but the exit was either poorly constructed or washed away, as it suddenly went rough, & I had a wash of water up on the bonnet to the windscreen. It gave me quite a fright!
I noticed a bit a noise when I turned onto the main road, but the handling of the car was fine! I told Geoff on my return, but he seemed unconcerned.
As always at this time of the year the fungi is plentiful |
The lichen too... |

Varena's water adventure this afternoon sounded exciting, but I was hoping that the noise she heard was something simple, such as a bit of grit in a brake pad, or something similar.
The final day of the World Test Championship Final was on this evening, and it ended early when Australia took the last Indian wickets quickly. It is nice to be the World Champions, but in a few days The Ashes start. This will be an interesting test for all involved, as usual. We'll have to wait and see how England's new approach, with Brendon McCullum as coach, goes, as their new rapid scoring style of batting, nick-named Baz-ball, has worked well for them recently.
