 Saturday 8th July

SHE SAID:

Kathy & I had a trip northwards to check out a few orchid spots. Nothing exciting was flowering, but lots of buds & leaves were found. It’s a shame I won’t be here to see them out.

We were back by around 3pm. I had invited Kathy over for dinner & wanted to get stuff ready.

She came over at 6pm. We had Chilli Con Carne, followed by Sticky Date Pudding, & Caramel Sauce.

The pudding was a trial run, as it was gluten-free & lactose-free; the owner's daughter here at the house-sit can’t eat either, so I thought I’d have a go. It tasted very yummy, though the caramel sauce eruption when I reheated it was a surprise. I even found some in my hair later!

HE SAID:

I took Charli to the retreat for a run around while I did a few minor tasks. Nothing exciting.

With the first 6 hours of the third day of the third Ashes test lost to rain I headed to bed at a decent hour. What I hadn't expected was that the rain would actually stop in time for play to resume. So, play resumed, and the moistened everything, plus the humidity, allowed England to gain good swing with the ball, getting Australia's last 6 wickets fairly quickly. It now seems that we won't have much of a total to defend tomorrow. Oh well. It happens. We'll still be 2 - 1 up if it pans out how I expect it will.

I managed to convince Kathy to have a go on Keeta's hoverboard later in the evening. She was reticent, as expected, but eventually had a go. She managed to have several incident-free minutes of slow travel around the dining room. So, good on her for having a crack at a new skill.
