Saturday 5th August

SHE SAID:

We left Ravensthorpe around 10am; we're only going 75km west to the Jacup FC for the night.

Morning tea was an hour down the highway at Witt Road, where we found Donkeys, Reaching Spiders & loads of other budding Spiders.

Onward another 15km for our destination. This FC is huge, & we had it to ourselves briefly. Another van pulled in but left after lunch, I guess.

We had a wander around the bush, before & after our lunch, finding a few flowering orchids. I have been here several times in the past & knew it was a good spot, though I didn’t know what would here so early in the season. Donkeys & Wispy Spiders were found in flower, many more coming too.

Returning to the van we had more arrivals in the FC, but they parked rather too close...this place is HUGE! Why do they need to park close! Anyhow, they got a fire going & invited us to join them, so we did for a little while.

HE SAID:

Finding the spider orchids after lunch made Varena very happy. We had seen so many buds... The fire was a nice surprise from our neighbours, even if they did park just 20m away when they could have parked 100m. We chatted for about 90 minutes before heading back to the van for dinner. It was a very cold night so we had the diesel heater going both in the evening and the next morning.
