 Sunday 20th August

SHE SAID:

Geoff & I drove around to Cheynes Beach, about 85km east of Albany. The trip was about the orchids, but there were Humpback Whales in the bay & they stole the show! We saw maybe a dozen, with plenty of breaching, tail & fin slaps, to keep us entertained.

There was quite a crowd along cliffs watching the incredible sight.

Even seeing Queen of Sheba & Curly Locks Orchids didn’t compare today!

HE SAID:

We were rather lucky that there were whales at Cheynes Beach, as there were only a few orchids. On our return journey Varena was getting upset that the Curly Locks and Queens of Sheba orchids were not found at her known site. There was a lot of speculation as to why... Then we went a few extra metres and found plenty. Happiness returned.

We also went back to yesterday's Curly Locks site to see if the many flowers there were warm enough to open. So, we parked a bit closer this time, then traipsed and bashed our way through burnt shrubbery to the area, but none were open. Bugger.
