Saturday 23rd March

SHE SAID:

We were all packed up & on the hunt again by 8.30am. Mel headed off east for Corrigan, meeting with Ric & Martina to check on the Pygmy Orchids.

Dorte, Gary & us went around Dryandra for 2 hours, failing to sight the elusive Numbats. We had been told by a couple of people the numbers & sightings are way down recently. Cats have been sighted on the cameras around the park, which is bad. We parted company around 10.30am, after morning tea at Congelin Campground.

I had 3 stops in mind on the way back to break up the trip. We got some photos of the giant Numbat in Williams & stopped at the lookout over the huge opencast coal mine about 40km east of Collie.

The final stop was at Gnomesville for Mum to have a wander around the 1000’s of Gnomes & other assorted beasties!

Back at Gary’s place around 3.30pm we had the place to ourselves, as Gary & Dorte are in Perth for the night.

HE SAID:

Up a bit earlier than normal and on the road by 8:30am we crawled around Dryandra fruitlessly searching for a numbat. We stuck at the task for over two hours before having elevenses, then said farewell to Dorte and Gary as they headed to Perth for the night. Emus and kangaroos were spotted on our way back, but Jan has seen them before. Varena planned a couple of stops along the way home which broke the long drive up well. It seems that Jan will have to look for numbats on her next trip to Dryandra, whenever that may be.
