Wednesday 3rd April

The rain returned today, but not heavy, just enough to be annoying; we needed raincoats & brollies. We had a slow stroll to Kodaira station, about a ½ hour walk along Green Road. I was surprised to see how much the cherry blossoms had come out since the day after we arrived, when we first walked along some of Green Road.
Kiyoka’s parents invited us to their house for afternoon tea to have a belated celebration of Kiyoka’s birthday with a traditional cake they buy to celebrate special events. It was an amusing couple of hours.
In the evening we headed into Shinjuku to meet a good friend of Julian & Kiyoka’s, Kana. We have met her several times before & she is good fun. The walk to the restaurant was slow, as Mum & I were busy taking heaps of photos of the neon signs & the amazing 3D cat on one of the buildings.
We spent 3 hours at the restaurant & got back to the house around 11.30pm. Mum seemed to keep up really well.

With the cherry blossoms finally showing themselves the girls were very happy. Afternoon tea at Katsuichi and Kiyoko's house was fun, with much mirth and silly translations, mostly created by Katsuichi's Japanese to English translator app, which was just spouting random words in an effort to be understood.
The sights around Shinjuka at night were good to see, including an animated Godzilla head coming over a tall building and a very cute 3D cat video. Dinner, and the craft beers, went down very well.
