Tuesday 3rd September

SHE SAID:

I headed to Perth at 6.45am to pick Jean up from her accommodation at 9am. The drive was good & I got to the apartments at 8.45am; I was expecting more slow traffic & had told Jean 9am. Anyhow, she was ready.

Then we headed for Darlington to meet with Pat. She showed us around some of her old haunts, the less hilly ones at least. The orchids were rather light-on today, but we did find 9 varieties, with several new ones for Jean. I think Jean appreciated the less strenuous & slower pace of the last few days.

We finished around 1.30pm & had lunch at the Greenmont NP lookout, from which you can see the whole of the city. A nice end to a leisurely walk around the hills.

HE SAID:

As usual I had a few minor things to do, the first of which was to feed the chooks. Finding a metal lid from and old metal rubbish bin askew in the quail coop didn't bode well, but luckily there were only mice inside, nothing worse. Getting them out was a pain. Another job was to make to sure that I could at least start one of the several chainsaws in the shed, and also get the quad bike working for lugging firewood in the future. It took a while but I managed to get a chainsaw going reliably, after adding fuel - of course the tank was empty, and the quad bike had been on a trickle charger so started ok. During my little familiarisation ride of the bike I went down to the bottom of the 5 acre block, and saw both Cowslip and Snail orchids; Varena was quite pleasantly surprised.
