Sunday 18th May
SHE SAID:
Mum, Geoff & I headed for Leonardslee Gardens, for a walk around & a light lunch. It is a favourite spot of Mum’s & she hasn’t been for a while, & Geoff has never been. It is gorgeous in springtime, with the riot of flowers, & birds singing & chirping away madly.
There were many more sculptures than I remembers, & the white Bennett’s Wallabies were out close to the fence having a feed. They were imported from Tasmania in 1889 & they have thrived at Leonardslee.
We were back around 1.30pm, with packing & sorting out to be done for our trip away to Canterbury for 3 days tomorrow.
HE SAID:
I have been hearing of Leonardslee regularly for years, as Jan goes there a few times a year for a wander in the grounds and a cuppa. This time I tagged along, and I can see why it is popular. The grounds are large, well laid out, and with lots of plants in bloom, quite spectacular. Having some wallabies was a bonus.
