Thursday 21st August

SHE SAID:

We had a circuitous route to Salmon Gums today. I’d like to say it wasn’t for orchids & that Geoff needed to go to Esperance, but I’d be lying! Yes, we dropped into town as Kathy had found the Shy Limestone Spiders we had been watching were starting to flower! I managed to keep the orchid dashing down to under 90 minutes!

Geoff did have a couple of things to do whilst I was following my obsession, so I didn’t feel quite so bad going the “longer” route to Salmon Gums! We did get to our destination before dark, well before, around 2.30pm. I checked the temperature at 8.45pm, it said 4.2C feels like 1.3C! There could be frost on the car tomorrow morning!

Target found! Shy Limestone Spiders,
tiny wee orchids that can self-pollinate, meaning
they don't even need to open!

A beautiful white hybrid spider &
an Esperance King with a lovely backdrop

Variations on the Spectacled Donkey,
maybe a hybrid on the right?
HE SAID:
We had two possible routes to Salmon Gums today. One involved stopping in Esperance, the other not. I was fairly certain that we'd end up going into town so made a list of a few things to get done. The time wasn't wasted.
While setting up in the Salmon Gums Caravan Park I noticed that there was a padlock lying on the van draw bar. I was momentarily stunned until I realised that this bloody padlock had survived the 300km bouncy drive all the way from Ravensthorpe in the same location, from when I placed it there when I got a gas bottle refill. Amazing!
