Sunday 28th September

SHE SAID:

Today was the long trip out to some granite rocks to the west of Menzies. It was a 455km day, with over half on dirt roads, which were surprisingly good.

I think we found all the target Rufous Greenhoods we were searching for, 3 of which were new for me. I was VERY happy.

Sadly, the end of our stay in Kalgoorlie, dinner together at The Federal Hotel, was VERY disappointing. The food was small portions, overly expensive, & for me non-existent! My chicken parmi never appeared & Geoff had an argument with the boss to get his money back, in cash, not refunded onto the credit card. Not happy!

Thankfully we had leftover pizza at the BnB, which I had!

HE SAID:

It was quite a long day, about 11 hours, from meeting at 6am to returning about 5pm. I also had to repair a flat tyre on the ute around lunch time. The tyre pressure monitoring system worked! We put the ute through a car wash back in Kalgoorlie, which got a lot of the dust, but not all of it, off. Then it was off to dinner.

Dinner was crap. The Federal Hotel seemed very expensive. Had unusually middling meals. Could not co-ordinate when to bring them out. And then forgot Varena's meal entirely! I was tired, perhaps a little cranky, and bullied the shift manager for a cash refund, even though we had paid by card. My logic was that if there were any dramas with the refund we'd have left town and couldn't chase it up. Anyway, whether I went a bit far or not, if they'd given Varena her meal I wouldn't have said a word.
