Crappy day no.2 begins...some holiday from the holiday this is turning out to be! Well, I didn’t know it was going to be crappy AGAIN when it started, though I didn’t sleep great!
It was decided we wouldn’t have breakfast but wait till we were on the way to Canberra. Though I was pretty hungry!
Geoff picked up our hire car, after going to T2 to the counter only to be told there was a power outage, & he needed to go to T3. Our “mystery” car deal tuned out to be an electric car... WHAT A NIGHTMARE.
Firstly, NO handover or instructions on how to use it, which is quite worrying when you have never even been in one before. For starters the power/fuel status was at 80%, not 100%, then Geoff couldn’t work out how to turn the bloody thing off, he had to Google it!
Supposedly the 80% of power range the car had should be enough to get us to Canberra, it didn't! We didn’t even get clear of Sydney when we stopped for breakfast & decided that 29% power wasn’t enough.
Trying to get the car powered up was another new & painful experience. You HAVE TO download an APP.
Food consumed after an 18 hour wait; we had a further wait in the car till it reached about 82%. It was another 1 hour to be full, so we thought we would get to Canberra. NOPE, another stop was required with the gauge down to 19%. I was seriously worried we wouldn’t find a place to fill up as there is nothing between Goulburn & just north of Canberra.
But randomly there was EV recharging points at a winery on Lake George, that saved our bacon.
Boy, were we glad to get to Carmel & Scott’s at 4pm!

Hurry up & wait for fuel with ridiculous electric 'so called' cars (more like AI robots that try to take over the driving) |

The Lake George Winery which saved our bacon, though we didn't get to taste the wines as the cellar door was shut, despite it saying at the entrance it was open! |

This electric car experience is terrible so far. I have
driven a hybrid before, which was a relatively normal experience. But
this MG4 is horrible. It jerks and judders. The ride is far from
smooth. Nothing inside seems practical. The power drains rapidly on
the highway. Recharging is a very slow, not cheap, boring and
impractical waste of time, with a different app required to even
start a recharge. Why not swipe a payment card that covers what you
use? Dead simple in my mind, but no, making it difficult seems to be
the way. Getting to Scott and Carmie's was a big relief, and it was
also great to see them, but the car experience was still on our minds
a bit. Scott did a really good roast chicken dinner. Yummo!
