SHE SAID:

Farewelling Jill & Brian we headed northwards today, with an hour's break at Thirsk for me to check out the James Herriot museum (All Creatures Great & Small TV series) & for Geoff to find out about the founder of Lord's Cricket Ground, Thomas Lord.

That done, next was a brief photograph stop at the huge “Angel of the North” statue, just off the A1 near Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Lunch was at the rather un-picturesque seaside town of Newbiggin-by-the Sea, then on to our next BnB at Cresswell.

We celebrated our 16th Wedding Anniversary overlooking Druridge Bay & beach, with fish'nchips & our bottle of Denbies bubbly. No sunset as there were heavy clouds, but warm enough (just) to sit out on the benches to eat our dinner!!!

Newbiggins-by-the-Sea:  I called this place "un-picturesque" because there is
an ugly concrete wall surrounding the beach. I cut it out on purpose!

This statue is in the bay of Newbiggins!
It has been called an "eye damaging erection"!...Not by us I might add!

HE SAID:

Our 16th anniversary! Why wouldn't we sit at an English beach and nearly freeze, with our fish and chips and English wine? It all helps to make it memorable.

The Thirsk Museum's section on the Lord family was interesting though small. Apparently Thomas Lord's dad picked the wrong side in one of the religious uprisings and got the boot, ending up at Thirsk. When the Thirsk-ites found out that he was on the wrong team they hassled him, bought him a coach ticket out of town, and so off the family went to Norfolk, then London.
