SHE SAID :

Today was another busy one, with Strasbourg in France in the morning, then the Black Forest for lunch and the afternoon. We didn't have long enough in either, really.

Both were good; "Petit France", in Strasbourg was lovely, and the Black Forest Cherry Cake, deep in the forest, was delicious. The final stop was at an open air museum, with old reconstructed farms on display.

We also tried some of the famous Black Forest Cherry Cake here too!

HE SAID:

I felt a bit ripped off earlier in the year, when, knowing that I had tickets to the first two days play of four Ashes test matches, I was notified that I had not been successful in getting tickets to the Lord's test match.

The ticketing for the Ashes was an absolute shambles. Each test cricket venue is operated by a county cricket club, and it is that club that sells the tickets for the test match at their ground. So to get test match tickets I had to register with five different county clubs, enter a ballot for both Lord's and The Oval, access the counties on-line ticketing systems on varying dates and times (including one 2am attempt), pay immediately via Australian credit card at whatever exchange rate the banks are slugging customers that day, and also pay an extortionate ticketing agency "booking fee". All this started around ten months before the Ashes even commenced.

By comparison, in Australia, today, I can go to one ticketing site and buy all the test match, ODI, and T20 cricket tickets I want, at around half the price and with 5% of the hassle. The things we do.....

Anyway... I finally made it to Lord's! I dragged Varena's friend Sue's husband Al up to London to do the Lord's tour. It was a great experience (photos to come). We even had a beer and some lunch at the attached tavern, before visiting the famous Abbey Road studio and its landmark pedestrian crossing. A really enjoyable day out!
