SHE
SAID:
I
had the morning out at Mayfield Gardens, which was about 60kms from
Limekilns, near to Oberon. I had heard of this garden before but have
never been within easy access of it till now.
The
owners of Mayfields have conjured up these gardens out of bare
paddocks, starting in 1984 when they purchased the land. It has been
an ongoing labour of love ever since. They employ 30 people now to
maintain & "grow" their dream. It is an amazing feat,
with ponds, a huge stone bridge, waterfalls & grotto. An obelisk
in a circular pond with an avenue of trees to "The Gallery" tells you the story of the gardens. Only around a 1/3 of the
gardens, 15 hectares or 36 acres, are open for 363 days a year. The
other 2/3 is called the family gardens; 50 hectares or 124 acres, are open 4 times a year for
festivals & special events.
I
spent a very pleasant 3 or so hours wandering around the various
paths & taking the odd photo or 2...well over 300 actually! Then
there was another 3 hours culling & sorting once I got back to
the house!

With only a few chores to do while Varena was out I had a quiet day of reading and watching shows.
