Friday 9th March

SHE SAID:

We had our first lie in for a while, till 7.30am. As we didn't have any supplies yet we drove up the street for breakfast, which was cheap and tasty, though the service was very slow.

After dropping Geoff at the St George's Park Cricket Ground I headed to the supermarket then back to the house. I had a quiet day of sorting 1000's of photos, washing and ironing.  It was good to have a quiet day.
I did go out again late in the day to pick Geoff up after his first cold day at the game.

We had a quiet night in with dinner and wine.

HE SAID:

I was quite excited to be going to my first test match in South Africa. It is a pity that there weren't many others with a similar bent, as the stadium looked to be only about quarter full. There was a band playing loudly off and on during the day, and finding it amusing and atmospheric at first, after about an hour I was glad when they were off, not on!

I was cool to cold in my shaded seat all day, with some regrets that I had not brought my big coat! By the end of the day I was getting offers to buy my fleece pullover from even colder spectators!

Australia started cautiously but lost no wickets in a very low scoring first hour. After drinks things were back to normal, except we kept losing wickets. A mediocre score should at least allow for a spirited bowling attack tomorrow.
