SHE
SAID:
We
headed up to Timbertown today, about 20km from Kew, near Wauchope. It
is a “living museum” all about the history of the timber industry
in the Wauchope & Port Macquarie area.
There
was an old steam train circling the town, with an old station &
station master's house in-situ, a reconstructed street with various
shops & businesses, as well as several houses, a chapel, &
school house too. You could have a ride in a horse drawn carriage, or
tractor drawn carriage, & on the steam train. There were traction
engines, steam boats on a small lake, old cars & a couple of food
outlets to keep people amused.
On
our way “home” we stopped off at the giant Bottlebutt Tree, in
the middle of the forest. There was a 400m loop walk to view the
tree. Plus, we spotted several orchids, nothing new, but flowers none
the less.

HE SAID:
It was an interesting day out, with steam trains, timber mills etc, except, as usual, with customer service. At Timbertown they had several food and beverage outlets, but only one had their coffee machine turned on, and they only took coffee orders on a "you order, someone goes away and makes it, they bring it to you at the counter, then they accept the next coffee order" basis. With the twenty or so people in the place this was going to be a real pain, so I gave it a miss. Then we walked straight to the campfire-made damper stall and asked for a piece each, with the obligatory cockey's-joy, of course. Well this was another huge disappointment! We were given the thinnest slice of damper the world has ever seen, then it was cut in half to give us a piece each! Not happy.
