Thinking that Mel would arrive around midday I chose a short morning drive to check on the burns along the Hopetoun Road. We had very little luck; the burns were still very black looking & barren. No orchids seen.
We stopped in a few non-burnt areas too, with equally poor success! Overall, another disappointing morning. Mel got stuck at work & didn’t arrive till 3.30pm, so I got another hunt in in the burn to the west. Once again very little seen!
It was good to catch up for drinks & dinner with Mel in Bertie. The BBQ in the camp kitchen was old & didn’t heat up, so I cooked in the van!

At least there were some colourful Hakeas & Grevilleas flowering |

Despite the cold we were prepared to cook the bbq and eat in
the camp kitchen. But when we couldn't get the bbq hot enough we did
it all in the van. Varena made it all work, and it was very tasty. I
watched more cricket, failing yet again to last until the end.
