Tuesday 20th June
SHE SAID:
It was a cold & windy day out around the Ravensthorpe burns & bush on Mel’s field trip. We didn’t find much in the burns, nor in the bush; everything appears to be quite late in flowering this year.
The rain caught up with us in the mid-afternoon, which didn’t add to the “fun”.
I was very happy to get back to the warmth of Bertie around 4pm.

HE SAID:
The forecast for today was miserable. The actual weather was miserable. I stayed at the van enjoying being warm and dry. I made a couple of brief outings between rain squalls, walking to the supermarket for a couple of things in the morning, and to the hardware store for a quick look in the afternoon.
There was a blackout around 6pm, with the electricity provider's web page stating that it was very widespread, and that it may last until 1am! We put the diesel heater on to stay warm, still had lighting because of the van's batteries, and Varena was doing dinner on our gas cooktop, so we were fine. Mel, on the other hand, had nothing, so we asked her to join us. We chatted for a short while and then the power came back on. All was fine after that.
As much as I tried I could not quite stay awake to watch the last bit of the first Ashes Test. So, I missed Australia's unlikely victory, but caught up with the details and replays in the morning.
