Wednesday 9th August
SHE SAID:
Geoff & I had a day around the Wellstead area, a new place for us. It was an orchid hunt, with a burn to the east of us to look in, which came up trumps, & some random stops on the way back to the van.
Beans on toast & chocolate brownie for lunch recharged the motors & we went down to Cape Riche in the afternoon. I had hoped we might see whales, but no luck. Though, Geoff found me a lutea (yellow) Mosquito Orchid, a stunning looking, rarely seen colour form. They are usual dark reddish pink! He is such an asset to have with me when hunting orchids, I very much doubt I would have found it myself.

HE SAID:
The orchids were a bit thin on the ground at the start of our wanders, but after a while we started to find a few. I was tempted to have a lazy arvo at the van but was glad that I chose to go to Cape Riche with Varena, as almost straight away we started finding some interesting orchids that Varena thought were out of their normal range. Plus there was my Lutea Mosquito, which had Varena very excited indeed! So, a good day out.
