Birthday number 3: Mum’s. She hits 85 today!
Ten of us rendezvoused at The Middle House, in Mayfield, for lunch. It was just over an hour's drive from Horsham, but 2 hours for Andrew & Leslie, as they had to go west to collect John then double back for Mayfield!
Lunch was lovely & the 1575 Middle House restaurant was a beautiful old building.
We had finished lunch & were out on the back terrace waiting for desserts & cuppas when the staff informed us that the village had lost power so they couldn’t serve hot desserts nor drinks!
Those who returned to Horsham got a cuppa & some delicious birthday cake that Michael brought with him, for me! It had a little camera in icing & a spray of tropical silk orchids on it; very thoughtful.

HE SAID:
We wound our way for an hour or so to Mayfield for lunch. The pub was very nice, as was the food. I was surprised how warm the beer was! But it wasn't unpleasant. Coffee and cake in the late afternoon went well, even though the cake was ordered by Jan for Varena's birthday, but she'd forgotten! Oops!
Julian seems to be recovering; he managed half of his salad lunch and an orange juice.
