Friday 25th October

SHE SAID:

Everyone did their own thing today, Paul had a trip down the club with his carer, Kathy was off for a shift at Vinnies, Jac & Mick were off to Kyogal to do stuff for Jacqui’s uncle. So, I suggested to Geoff we head up to the Minyon Waterfalls about 40km inland from Byron.

The drive was lovely, winding up through the rainforest on ever narrowing roads. Thankfully there wasn’t much traffic. The falls could be glimpsed through the trees, with a lookout over the top of them. I spotted 1 Bonnet Orchid, & several leaves, but the highlights were a 2m python, a Goanna, & possibly a Bettong that hopped off into the bush.

Back at the house more people were arriving. Geoff’s oldest sister Eileen, Neil, & Philippa. All of us minus Paul, headed for the club for dinner, an easy way to feed everyone.

HE SAID:

Our drive up to Minyon Falls was a good outing. Varena always takes a look at what we can do and where we can go. She is so good at it! We kept seeing wildlife, which is always nice. The Services Club is less than a ten minute walk from Paul's house so we all meandered down there in the evening. We had a chatty old time, as usual, with Paul's mate Snowy, who had lent us his BMW X5 for the duration, joining us. It turns out that Snowy loves a bet on the horses, was a professional punter for about 10 years, and used to own shares in a horse that has a roadhouse named after it: Placid Arc, which we have been refuelling our ute at a bit recently. Snowy also used the credits on his club card to pay for all of our dinners! Very generous. Apparently, whenever he wins anything there, and he is always there, he gets it as a credit on his card. Good on him, and thanks for dinner! We all had a great evening.
